Modern World Studies

Year 10

Modern World Studies is an engaging and dynamic elective that integrates Year 10 Geography and History to explore contemporary global issues and recent historical developments. Modern World Studies is designed to be flexible and responsive to student interests. Students will have the opportunity to co-design aspects of the curriculum with their teachers, so they can focus on specific global issues or historical events that intrigue them, allowing for a personalised and engaging educational experience.

Areas of investigation may include:

  • Contemporary global issues such as climate change, environmental sustainability, human rights and human wellbeing
  • Recent historical developments (from 1918 to today) including major wars, social movements, and political shifts.
  • The connections between historical events and modern geographical issues, and how historical and environmental contexts influence current global trends.

This course aims to equip students with a broader understanding of the modern world and prepare them for informed, active citizenship. This course may be of interest to those who wish to pursue HASS subjects at Stage 1 and 2.
